Title of consulting services provided: Status of Plant and Animal Inventories for Protected Areas in the Tropics.Description of services provided: The Company searched the WCMC databases on 8,715 protected areas in the tropics and analysed the information contained on 1,078 inventories of plant and animal taxa, including site lists for angiosperms, birds, mammals and reptiles. Our analyses demonstrate that, depending on the taxonomic level considered, data on the richness of higher taxa (such as genus or family) can indicate the species richness of tropical protected areas. The results were published by WCMC and in the Proceedings of the Royal Society. In addition the Company demonstrated the feasibility of linking WCMC's Protected Areas database to its Species database.Staff Provided: Dr M.G. Murray (Biodiversity Specialist). |
